My Uncle Lou owns a 1917 Maxwell that he acquired in the '50s from one of his uncles. The car was purchased by my great grandfather about 1920 and it is the car my Dad, my Uncle Lou and many of their cousins first learned to drive on the old family property the always called 'The Ranch'.

The Ranch is gone now the site of a dozen or so new car dealerships but the Maxwell lives on.

This is what a two door version of the car looked like back in the day. Some day I'll digitize some photos of the actual car from the 20's, showing it as a 4-door, and then modified as a utility vehicle.

This is the car as it has looked for the last 40 or so years. Early in the 60's my uncle took the pieces that survived and built this 'speedster' for less than $100.

I'm in the driver seat, son Stu beside me, with Uncle Lou looking at the tires...

Here I'm taking my wife out for a spin. I had a great time giving rides this afternoon and got all the seat time I could manage, the opportunity only happening every five years or so.
Left to right. My Uncle Lou, the Maxwell, and me with a big Maxwell driving smile. Yes, my uncle does collect license plates, why do you ask?
